Cox's Bazar : an excellent base for accessible visits
For Bangladeshi's it doesn't get much better than Cox's Bazar, the country's most popular beach town than the other one 'Kuakata beach town. It's sort of a Cancun of the east. It's choc-a-bloc with massive well-architectured concrete structures, affluent 5 & 3 star hotels, catering largely to the country's elite and overseas tourists. The beach is only a bit crowded in tourist season, October to March, especially near the hotel-motel zone, but remains virgin during the rest of the year, April to September, when it's better to take a trip there. Here you will find all kind of in formations to make a good tour in Cox’s Bazar.

St Martin’s: tropical cliche and the only coral island in Bangladesh
Short Description
St. Martin's Island is a small island (area only 8 km) in the northeastern part of the Bay of Bengal, about 9 km south of the tip of the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf peninsula, and forming the southernmost part of Bangladesh. There is a small adjoining island that is separated at high tide, called Chera Dwip. It is about 8 kilometres (5 miles) west of the northwest coast of Myanmar, at the mouth of the Naf River.
Climate and weather
The best weather is usually between November and February; this is the major tourist season. Between March and July, cyclones can strike. The island was devastated by a cyclone in 1991 but has fully recovered, and was untouched by the 2004 tsunami. Thus, March to July is off-season for tourists.

4. Engine Boat or Speed Boat Tour around the Island

Transportation (Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar)
You can go Cox’s Bazar by Bus or Air . Here you can get your transportation link and can book your ticket.
Transportation ( Cox’s Bazar to Saint Martine)
The only way to reach St. Martin's Island is by water transportation: boats and ships (mostly for tourists) from Teknaf. The only internal transport for island is non motorized van (pulled by man.) The roads are made of concrete, and their condition is decent. All the hotels run generators until 11 PM which are not allowed afterwards, so they then rely on solar power, which is popular throughout the island. There is no electricity supply from the grid since a hurricane in 1999. The island is all about sun, sea and palm trees. During the day, it comes alive with water and beach sports, with beach parties and bonfires lighting up the evening skies.

Restaurants in Saint Martine Island :
When you stay in the residential hotels or Resorts in Saint Martin’s Island they will provide food as you want
Food is a little more expensive here than on the mainland.
The food shacks that line the road to the port all cook up similar fare: parothas (Tk 8), omelettes (egg, Tk 20) and vegetable curry (Tk 20) for breakfast, and (fish, dal, rice and veggies at 130 Tk) the rest of the day. Cha is Tk 8.
All of the hotels also have restaurants with basically the same typical Bangladeshi offerings, with higher prices and better quality than those near the port. Chicken is sometimes available but not very tasty, and lobster and crab may be available occasionally at very high prices. The restaurant at Blue Marine Resort and Appayan at St Martin's Resort are the best on the island.
"Narikel Jinjira Restaurant" is simply the best of the best. We have all heard about "A room with a view" but at Narikel Jinjira Restaurant they say "Dine with a view". The restaurant is located right at the front of the pier. Coming down from the pier you will find the restaurant on the first right side. They specialize in Sea food as well as Bangla, Indian and Chinese. Bar-B-Que is one of the special features they have for late afternoon. They offer buffet as well for large groups (Advanced booking). They have opened this restaurant with the mission to provide quality food for the tourists who visits the island. It has sitting arrangement for more than 200 guests at a time making Narikel Jinjira one of the biggest restaurant. Here they want to give you the taste, environment as well as keeping in mind your health. The food is delicious and the interior is sure to catch your eyes. A trained set of people are waiting to welcome you to "Narikel Jinjira Restaurant".
The islanders also sell dried fish, which is a bit more expensive but fresher than those available upshore in Cox's Bazaar.
Early morning is the best time to get fresh fish from the fisherman near the market, you can often bring it to your hotel chef and ask him to fry it up the way you like, or some places may do a nice evening barbeque. Some places may even give you kitchen access to cook it yourself if you ask.

Kuakata
Kuakata is a town known for its panoramic sea beach. It is located in south-eastern Bangladesh, and is the number two tourist destination in the country. Kuakata beach is a sandy expanse 18 kilometres (11 mi) long and 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) wide. From the beach one can have an unobstructed view of both sunrise and sunset over the Bay of Bengal.
Origin:
The name Kuakata originated from the word 'Kua'-the Bengali word for "Well" which was dug on the sea shore by the early Rakhine settlers in quest of collecting drinking water, who landed on Kuakata coast in the eighteenth century after being expelled from Arakan (Myanmar) by the Mughals. Afterwards, it has become a tradition of digging Well in the neighbourhoods of Rakhaine tribes for water.
Location
Kuakata is located in Kalapara Upazila, Patuakhali District. It is about 320 kilometres (200 mi) south of Dhaka, the capital, and about 70 kilometres (43 mi) from the district headquarters.
About the beach:
Kuakata offers a full view of the sunrise and sunset from the same white sandy beach in the water of the Bay of Bengal. Locally known as Shagor Kannya (Daughter of ocean), the long strip of dark, marbled sand stretches for about 18 kilometres (11 mi). The long and wide beach at Kuakata has a typical natural setting. This sandy beach has gentle slopes into the Bay of Bengal. Kuakata is also a sanctuary for migratory winter birds.

to get to by speed boat or motor boats from Rangamati.

Tribal Museum
Located in Rangamati, the Tribal Cultural Museum in
the Hill Tracts of Bangladesh offers fascinating insight into the history and
cultural traditions, as well as socio-economic aspects of the different tribes
in the area. Visitors can view displays of tribal dress, ornaments, musical
instruments, coins and handicrafts at the museum. Paintings depicting the many
facets of tribal life are also on display, as well as a collection of statues
made from various metals and wood. The Chittagong Hill Tracts in south-eastern
Bangladesh is divided into the Khagrachari, Rangamati and Bandarban districts
and is home to a number of the country’s tribal groups. Collectively referred
to as the Jumma, these tribal groups include the Marma, Tripura, Chakma,
Tenchungya, Chak, Pankho, Mru, Bawm, Pankho, Murung, Lushai, Khumi and Khyang
tribes.
4.
Shajek and Marissa Vally:
Sajek is a union at Baghaichari Upazila in Rangamati districts. It is
one of the big union in Rangamati districts. Basically it is name of a river
which separates Bangladesh from India. The river flows into the Karnafuli River
in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Sajek Valley is situated in the North angle of
Rangamati, near the Mizoram border boundary area. The valley is 18000 ft high
form sea lavel. Many small rivers flow through the hills among them Kachalon
and Machalong are famous. It is one of the biggest unions in Bangladesh.
- Kaptai National Park: This
forest reserve is located in the Karnafuly and Kaptai range. According to
the government statistics some 50,000 people visits the national park
every year as it provides some walking trails among the
lush green forest. The animal species of Kaptai National park are deer, elephants, monkeys, fishing
cats and birds. The Kaptai Forest Rest house, Kaptai
Mukh Forest Rest House and several picnic spots are located here.
6.
Rajban Bihar Pagoda: An internationally
known Buddhist Temple, where the spiritualist principal monk of Rajban
Vihara, Shrimath Sadhana Nanda Mohasthabir(Ban Vante) lives.
7.
Peda Ting Ting: A small
island on the Kaptai Lake, few kilometres away from Rangamati. It is mostly
known for its serenity. There are a few tourist accommodation facilities here
and a tiny restaurant run by the locals. It offers foods ranging from
traditional to indigenous delicacies.
8.
Chakma Royal Palace: This is the palace of the present
Chakma King. However, it is open to public for a visit.
9.
DC Bungalow Area: The District Commissioner’s Bungalow is
located adjacent to the lake. There is a small light house and a shelter
accessible to the public. This spot provides a nice view of the lake.
- Others: The local market is also
a tourist attraction as it offers handicrafts, textiles and
ornaments made by the tribal people.
How to go from
Dhaka to Rangamati :
There are some good coaches who will
take you to Rangamati. Both AC and non AC coaches are available and there are
plenty of options for you to choose from. Buses leave for Rangamati from Sayedabada,
Fakirapul, Motijheel Bus terminals every hour till midnight. Catching a bus is
the only direct way to reach Rangamati from Dhaka as there are no trains or
flights going there. Some major bus services are:

If you prefer making a mid way stop,
and you can afford an additional day in your trip, it will be worth a while to
stop at Chittagong for a night. The economic capital of Bangladesh is not just
another large city, but it has a specific lifestyle and a significantly
different food habit than Dhaka. You can go to Chittagong from Dhaka with Bus, Train or Air.
My personal recommendation will be to
go with a train journey. There is nothing more romantic than a train travel at
night. You can book an online ticket or collect it from the station. In
Chittagong, spend a day if you have some extra time in your hand. Sight-seeing
in Patenga beach, Marine drive road, Foy’s Lake is more than enough to keep you
busy the whole day. After your quick city tour you have to grab a bus to
Rangamati in the morning. All the bus on this route leaves from Baddarhat Bus
Terminal, every half an hour towards Rangamati. It will take 100-140 tk in a
chair coach. The highway is full of sharp bends and curves and while you are
crossing Ranirhat, a wonderful landscape of a continuous row of sky-touching
hills will appear in front of you.
When you have just two or three days
in hand and want to see all of the treasures of nature of south-eastern side of
Bangladesh, you could catch a flight from Dhaka to Chittagong first to save
about 10 hours in total. Every airline company in Bangladesh has direct flight
to the commercial capital. The ticket fare for each person is 5000-6500 BDT.
Reach Chittagong safely, and then hop on a bus to remarkable Rangamati.
